North Charleston is the third largest city in the state of South Carolina, USA. It is famous for production of commercial aeroplanes and automobiles. Beautiful parks, gardens, museums and historic sites – N Charleston has it all.

Interesting Tourist Attractions of North Charleston, South Carolina

Riverfront Park – This part is located on the western bank of Cooper River. The park is built on what was formerly known as Retreat Plantation – a rice producing estate which was established in 1672! The park has fishing and picnic spots, swinging chairs, benches, art exhibition and an 800 foot boardwalk.

Hunley Submarine – H.L. Hunley was a confederate submarine which attacked and sank USS Housatonic in 1864, thus earning the honor of being the first American submarine to sink an enemy ship. However soon after, it disappeared mysteriously only to be rediscovered in 1995.

The submarine contained a lot of artefacts which are the subject of research at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center. On the weekends the submarine is open for the general public.

North Charleston Fire Museum and Educational Center – Built in the heart of the city, close to Charlestonn International Airport, this museum has one of the largest collection of firefighting vehicles dating back to the 1780s.

Established in 2007, this has become a very popular tourist attraction. Retired and active firefighters from the area provide tours for groups and also answer questions related to equipment and fire safety. People can learn about the history of fire fighting and marvel at its evolution over the centuries.

Wannamaker County Park – This beautiful park designed for nature lovers offers more than 1000 acres of lovely woodlands and wetlands, with tons of activities for families. You can find paved walking facility, biking trails, seasonal sprinkler area, playgrounds, picnic spots with grills and tables, golf course, bike and boat rentals, large play hill, grassy open meadows and tons of other attractions.

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens – Magnolia has been selected as one of “America’s Most Beautiful Gardens” (Travel + Leisure Magazine). This is a historic house with gardens. It is one of the oldest plantations in the South. The house and gardens are open daily for the public. The scenic gardens with flowering trees are a beauty to watch, specially in the spring season.
