Hotels Treat Employees Nicely to Reduce Turnover Problem
Employee turnover is a big problem for hotels. And they are partly to blame for this menace. Statistics clearly show that hotels which have low employee turnover usually enjoy higher guest satisfaction ratings. When employees stay with a hotel for long periods of time, they will understand how the hotel operates, and will develop a desire to give their best.
Hospitality industry has earned itself the bad reputation of not providing its employees as much benefits as other industries. For many years the industry has resisted and avoided providing benefits to its employees such as health benefits, paid holidays for its hourly workers, etc.
This has come to haunt the industry as it is currently facing severe labor crisis. Many people who were laid off or halted work during the pandemic period, are reluctant to return to the industry. Many of them have been reported as saying they would prefer to work in some other industry instead of returning to hospitality. The reasons they are citing include long and inconvenient working hours, low pay, very little employee benefits, harsh working conditions, bad treatment, etc.
Hotels would do well to treat their employees well. The way you treat your employees may turn out to be the way the employees treat your guests. Treat your employees as one of the most important asset of your business.
With the looming labor crisis, and even otherwise, it is pretty difficult to find good quality employees. It is even harder to keep such good employees. This is true in any business industry and not specific to hospitality.
You have to go through several hurdles to find and hire the best available talents for the job positions you have at your hotel. Don’t let go these people with ease. Try to give them better work conditions so that they can feel motivated to do their work with total interest.
By taking better care of your workers, you can not only solve or at least drastically reduce the employee turnover problem, but can also improve your hotel’s service quality and boost guest satisfaction levels. You will also save yourself lot of time and headaches as you won’t have to be constantly on the lookout for new workers to fill the slots left by the outgoing staff.
