One of the most difficult things about planning a vacation is booking the perfect hotel. A bad hotel can your experience and turn your dream vacation into a nightmare.

Your hotel will be your launch pad from where you explore your destination in detail. This will be your temporary home abroad. Choosing the right place to stay can mean the difference between an incredible vacation or a disaster.

Here is a list of points to keep in mind when booking a hotel: 

• Check out hotel reviews

It is very important to check the reviews thoroughly before booking a room. Read through the details and profiles to make sure the reviews are authentic. I would recommend reading 5-10 reviews before booking.

This will help you learn more about customer service, cleanliness, overall environment, general complaints, and more. Ignore reviews that are highly exaggerated and avoid booking hotels / rentals without reviews.

Check out the profiles of people who have left a review and check if their profile seems legit and authentic. Many times hotels pay others to post positive reviews about their property, so be a little careful about this.

 

• Check the security features

Check the security features such as on-site guards, doors and surveillance cameras. You can also research the neighborhood to make sure it is a safe area before you arrive.

 

• The meal

In addition to the sites you visit, the food is another important element that you should keep in mind. If the food is not good, again it can spoil your whole mood.

There are a lot of food bloggers and reviewers who review the quality and taste of food of different hotels. Make sure to search for such reviews.

When booking a hotel, it is recommended to check their kitchen menus. The star-rated hotels usually have an excellent cuisine and services. You should make sure that the hotel you are going to book will serve the food you want.

• Facilities and hygiene

When planning a trip with the family you will want basic amenities such as a children’s area and a swimming pool. Check out all the facilities/amenities a hotel is providing you.

Besides checking out the facilities, another important thing to check is the level of hygiene the hotel is maintaining.

 

• Check the hotel location

Don’t rush to find the cheapest hotel before you check out the location. Use Google Maps, Reviews and Forums to make sure the hotel is situated in the cennter of the town or at least in close proximity to major attractions of the city.  You may book a cheap hotel that is located at a remote place and then may end up paying lot of money to Uber, taxi, etc

You can even use Google Street View to determine the safety and appearance of the area. You can probably save lot of time and money by choosing a hotel in a central location.

 

• Check for kitchens

If you plan to travel for a lengthy period of time, consider booking a hotel room with mini kitchens or rented rooms with kitchens.
